The nameskae

America America....In the news again.Coincidently just as the H1B debate hots up, I happened to see the movie Namesake.Well, not being into books too much i came to know this is based on a famous book by jhumpa lahiri also by the same name. Now what prompts me to write about this movie. The movie of course is a well made one, fantastic acting and all elements of a good film thrown in correct proportions. But there is one line in the movie that makes you think. The man goes ahead for a arranged marriage with an bengali who then separate and she mentions "I guess being a bengali is not enough for a good marraige".
For people born and brought up in a different surrounding and where boys and girls are free to choose each other,it is evident that everyone will have a boyfriend/girlfriend depending on whether he is a boy or girl(Not adding respectively deliberately as it can as well be vice versa!!).
The basic reason why arranged marriage works so well in India is that despite all the reports and changes in the cities of western culture creeping in,there is still a huge proportion of people who growup having friends who are boys/girls and not necessarily a Boy/girlfriend.And once out of college, apparently the thinking is "parents will find one for me".
Cut to a scenario, where one has complete independance to choose ones partner without any hint of social pressure. A person then is bound in matrimony to another person who has grown in the same environment, there are bound to be sparks. This is where the culture to adjust comes into picture where it takes effort from both people to make the marriage work. It is this adjust maadi culture that has found its way into every walk of life and not just the marraige.
With the economy booming and changing lifestyles, even the demographics of marriage are changing.

I would definitely refrain from any kind of passing any kind of judgement of which is good or bad,but maybe my observation of again "why we cant just expect the same lifestyle everywhere"

Is this all to life?

Who decides what is life meant for?Who decides whether you are happy? Its all the thoughts of the society or the so called great thinkers. That brings to one more question? Do creatures other than man think "is there more to life?"

The irony is that its all a man made world. So the answers posed to your questions will have thousands of answers. The best answer is "you lead a life which least adversely affects the people who matter to you and you yourself are not frustrated leading it".Well some people are content working in the same place for years toghether.Their content is that they have managed to keep their family happy. That doesnt mean they have not acheived anything. Its just that their definition of happiness is different. The bottomline is in course of acheiving something, one needs to hear the silent scream
----------------
Silent Scream---Richard Marx
-----------------
Twenty four and he believes for sure he's got it made
Fame is here for good and looks will never fade
He doesn't know
The game is never over 'till the cards have all been played.

Eighty three and still he feels his best is yet to come
He believes that youth is wasted on the young
He's alone
The only dream he ever has is being with someone

Love you when you're standing tall
But nobody knows when you when you're falling
All you have to do is call
But nobody ever hears the silent scream

Christmas came and went again but still nobody came
Staring at her wedding photo in a frame
She's alone
We should hope the loss of memory helps to ease the pain

Memories, moments you recall.
We should be remembered for the greatest of them all.
You can't begin to live someone else's life
Or you're own will pass you by.

Oh, who's to know.
Maybe we can learn a thing or two from everyone
